Frankly there was a lot of unused space around the entryway. That may seem a bit presumptuous of me to say but after nearly three-hundred BeerFly reviews I have become quite adept at noticing layouts of places. I am available for consult if anyone is thinking of opening a beer bar or a brewpub of their own. Everything of interest here was off to the right of the entry and down a set of steps. The “U”-shaped light wood bar was aft and just to the left of the entry to the door to the brew house. To the left of the bar were a couple of high-backed booths followed by a private party room all of the way aft. In the far left-hand corner was a stage for live bands on weekends… 6%As a graduate of The University of Alabama I was tempted to give this place a zero for atmosphere since it is on the campus of Auburn University but I feel bipartisan today so I will be fair. The bar is as you would expect a college town bar somewhat dark and below ground with a lingering smell of sour beer permeating the room. However the beer created here is far from sour those aromas must be from the macro swill still being served here. Slightly above average beers don the menu along with your typical greasy southern bar food. This is definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in Auburn or in the state of Alabama at all. This state is hurting for brewers so give them all as much business as possible so they feel encourage to keep at it. Reviewed on: 11-10-2008 02:19:52.

When this happens the government loses much needed revenues and the local manufacturers are placed at a disadvantage” he said. He added that in many instances the illegal importers sell the commodity at a price that is lower than the local manufacturer and in some instances lower than the price that the commodity is sold for in the country of origin. “For example smuggled vodka scotch whisky liqueur and beer are sold cheaper than those at our duty free shop. We are recommending.

The reign of Kate the Great
Portsmouth Herald News – Jan 20, 2008
“That’s not all Todd Alstrom co-publisher of Beer Advocate Magazine had to say about the Portsmouth Brewery’s Russian Imperial Stout more popularly known as “Kate the Great. ” But that’s quite a mouthful as is the stout which in December was named by the magazine as the number one beer in America. It was also declared the second best on Planet Earth based on tens of thousands of individual beer rankings submitted by Beer Advocate members more than 100000 strong. And thank goodness some of us got to try it here in Portsmouth because the rich creamy dark and deep stout sold out in a record three weeks and won’t be back until the end of summer says the man who made it Portsmouth Brewery Brew Master Todd Mott. Although he says he’s been making it for years.

Still at least based on what I saw I can’t imagine anyone panning the food here. It looked to be a cut above what I’d call typical pub grub if not exactly a huge cut above. As for the selection at least with the beers on tap it was jaw dropping awesome. The night I was there it included hopslam stille nacht and the scotch winter ale from Canaster. There were an additional 5 or 6 Belgians on tap as well as Bells Kalamazoo Stout Aventinus Pyramid Apricot (not to generalize but Mike has a better then average selection of “chick beers” here – fruit beers and lambics) and a number of others. I think there were roughly 20 beers on tap all of which were solid. I spoke to Mike about the selection and he confirmed that he goes out of his way to try to feature beers you are unlikely to see any place else.

Server was very attentive without being overbearing. What really blew me away was the number of guest taps (15-20). My brewpub experience to date has consisted solely of beer brewed on-site; however Willimantic’s sheer volume of taps made this place exceptional even in terms of the selection at beer bars in my area. In terms of the quality of beers brewed on-site I would rate Williamantic between 3. 0; however the overall experience was a solid 4… I had the ctoberfest Harvest and Rye. Wife had the VEG IPA and the Huskies IPA. All were very good quality beers. They also had the following on tap – PS Pale BockCertified GoldHopyard IPABelgian BlackSummerfestFor a brewery they had a lot of “outside” taps. More than most breweries and some quality beer from Dogfish Long Trail etc. We also had burgers wings and nachos which were all tasty and at a great price. The bartenders were very friendly as well.
