(02-10) 04:00 PST Paso Robles San Luis bispo County –If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that Paso Robles is “the next Healdsburg” I’d have enough money to buy a $3 million Victorian within spittin’ distance of Healdsburg’s upscale shops restaurants and winery tasting rooms. After a January trip to Paso Robles I’ll be danged if this Central Coast city best known for cattle wrangling is indeed looking a lot like the Sonoma County town in which I live. If Paso’s burgeoning sophistication – and the lip service about it – continues I’ll get my grand manse in no time. It was my first visit to Paso Robles since a December 2003 earthquake leveled the city’s Mastagni Building and its iconic clock tower built in 1892 and damaged several other historic structures. A stroll along the downtown streets around City Park with its fountain and gazebo revealed new businesses: Vivant Fine Cheeses We live Powell’s Sweet Shoppe Cold Stone Creamery the nine-screen Park Cinemas and no less than 12 winery tasting rooms.
