Government spokewoman Jeanette Fitzsimons yesterday briefed a group of council employees and local businesspeople on the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy while in New Plymouth. The co-leader of the Green Party Ms Fitzsimons was acting in her capacity as spokeswoman on energy efficiency and conservation. She said old beer fridges in garages across the country were among the most inefficient power-sapping appliances and were costing people hundreds of dollars in wasted electricity.
