The drink wasexpected to get dearer as the production of malted barley – a constituent inbeer manufacturing – faces a decline in Australia due to drought conditionsaccording to Jim Salinger of New Zealand’s National Institute of Water andAtmospheric Research. “Mostareas in Australia where malting barley is cropped are likely to experienceproduction declines” Salinger said adding: “It will mean either there will bepubs without beer or the cost of beer will go up. No taxidermy no television no kitsch: Beer Table is more beer salon than beer bar. It’s mature but not boring; upscale but not uptight; reverent of but not pedantic about the beer it serves. The space is small with snug seating for about 30 and handsome. Justin Philips who owns and runs Beer Table with his wife Tricia built the place punctuating a sea of dark wood with thoughtful accents: marble tops the small bar at the back; jam jars fashioned into pendant lights hang overhead. There are few beers on tap — the selection changes daily or even in the middle of a night when a small-production keg runs out and Mr. Philips swaps in an equally obscure substitute. The list of 25 or so bottled beers which changes daily is the focus. It is a fabulously succinct remarkably reliable document and most beers on it are not just unusual but unusually delicious.

The affected batch is embossed with “N35″ followed by “I” on the edge of the bottle. The Centre for Food Safety made the appeal today as the US brewer the Boston Beer Company is recalling the affected batch. The centre is closely monitoring the situation and called on the trade to stop selling the affected product.

The firms are not going to sponsor Sumfest or the Sting Festival because they say that the lyrics of the tracks do not fit with their image. According to the promoters they were aware from the start of the year that the sponsorship had been pulled. The sponsorship deals were worth millions of Jamaican dollars and helped the shows get the best artists on the dancehall scene. However the acts and some of the things they said at last year’s events were the final nail in the coffin of the relationship with the firm.

The move comes two years ahead of an agreed ban by the drinks industry on branding on child-size replica shirts. But an alcohol concern group has called for a total ban on alcohol sponsorship in sport. The Scottish Football Association (SFA) said a wider debate on the issue of alcohol branding in sport was needed. Carling brewed by Coors has sponsored Rangers and Celtic since 2003.
