InBev bid for Anheuser-Busch will be felt in Mexico
International Herald Tribune – May 27, 2008
Modelo whose beers include Corona and Femsa whose beers include Dos Equis sell about 98 percent of all the beer in Mexico and both brewers face significant change if the acquisition goes ahead. Anheuser-Busch the U. brewer whose beers include Budweiser owns 50 percent of Modelo so any takeover of the maker of Anheuser-Busch would directly involve the Mexican company. In the two most likely outcomes Modelo would embrace an InBev deal and offer the combined company seats on Modelo's board or it would reject the deal and seek to buy back Anheuser-Busch's stake analysts say.
