Some Will Have to Skip the Hops. Poor harvests dwindling reserves and burgeoning demand for beer in Eastern Europe and Asia have sent hop prices soaring in the past couple of years. Some key varieties are almost impossible to get.

Czechs no longer brew top pilsner

At this year’s World Beer Cup in San Diego California the largest competition of its kind the gold medal for “Bohemian-style lager” did not go to a Czech brewery for the first time since 2000 when the competition was smaller by nearly half and dominated by North American brewers. Rather the world’s best pilsner beers can be found in two unlikely places: Portland and Sydney. Australia’s James Squire Pilsner and regon’s Hopworks Urban Brewery Lager won the gold and silver awards respectively for their pilsner beers at the competition which was held in late April. Coming in third was Gambrinus Premium brewed by Plze?ský Prazdroj the legendary Czech brewery that first invented the pilsner style of beer in 1842. From its origins in Plze? west Bohemia pilsner has become the most popular style of beer in the world with more than 1 billion hectoliters consumed worldwide each year from China to South Africa.

A new and improved procedure for purchasing alcoholic beverages will be in place starting with Friday night’s Taste opening. nce that occurs those determined to be of legal age are given a wristband they are to wear while at the festival that shows they are over 21. After that is established tickets for the beverages can be purchased at two Thillens trucks that will be set up with special windows.

Deputies threatened with beer bottle

on Tuesday were dispatched to Big Tyler Road in Cross Lanes in reference to a disturbance according to a press release from Lt. When deputies arrived they located an intoxicated male identified as Jeffery Wood Blizzard 43 inside the residence the release said. Deputies discovered Blizzard had a warrant for his arrest in Putnam County and attempted to place him in custody the release said. Blizzard then grabbed a beer bottle and threatened officers with it the release said.
