PRTFLI «Pitchers Brewery of Greeley has won silver and bronze medals at the 2008 North American Beer Awards an international beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in North America. The top three winners in the competition’s 76 beer-style categories were announced earlier this month at the Mountain Brewers Beer Festival in Idaho Falls Idaho. Pitchers Brewery was recognized in the Belgian Strong Pale Ale beer-style category with a silver medal for its Belgian-Style Golden Ale a straw colored ale brewed with a special Belgian yeast strain. This beer features a slightly spicy noble hop aroma and is full-flavored with a dry finish. This same beer was also awarded a bronze medal in the Belgain Saison beer-style category.

Aftersuccessive waves of mergers in recent years Belgian-Brazilian group InBevBritain-based SABMiller Anheuser-Busch of the United States and Dutch groupHeineken have emerged as the leading international brewers. However InBev announced plansto reduce the ranks of global brewing giants even further last week with a46-billion-dollar offer to buy Anheuser-Busch in a bid to create an unrivaledbrewing powerhouse. If thedeal closes the combined company would have annual sales of 36 billion dollarswell ahead of the next biggest brewer SABMiller with 21 billion dollars. SABMiller merged its USoperations with Molson Coors in ctober and in January Heineken and Carlsbergteamed up in a joint bid for British brewer Scottish and Newcastle which theyare divvying up among themselves… Analyst Wim Hoste at Belgianbrokers KBC Securities said that big brewers “all have an original presence invery mature markets Europe and Northern America. “If they want to grow involume they need to look towards emerging markets” he added. While beer consumption hasbeen in decline for years in many traditional big markets such as western Europeand the United States it is booming in Asia and South America where risingwealth has fuelled a growing thirst for a cold brew. “In these countries beeroften substitutes traditional low quality local spirits” according to a studyfrom research network ESN. “This is further triggered byurbanisation and exposure to more Western-style influences especially among theyounger generations” the study said.
