St. Louis Post-Dispatch – Jun 11, 2008
Not very malty with mild hops a little watery compared to craft brews in the style– Bud Light by Anheuser Busch — a very light beer nice carbonation but close to water; practically the most popular beer on earth but again very light– Budweiser by Anheuser Busch — a basic macro lager hardly intolerable commendable at being consistent and easy to drink– Classic Pale Ale by Flying Dog — very raw hops with less bitterness citrus hints and malt finish– Double Dog Ale by Flying Dog — high hops not as fresh as I’d like a good beer with malt balance but there’s better double IPA– Dry hopped APA by Schlafly — one fine brew pour it out. Classic hop taste with light malt balance of an APA fresh tasting due to dry hopping– Export IPA by Schlafly — a bitter classic IPA full bodied and extra hops– 5 Day IPA by ‘Fallon — bitter fine IPA but not hoptastic; easy to drink; I’d say a beginner’s IPA– Hefe-Weisse by Franziskaner — classic Bavarian Weiss beer citrus with spicy finish– Hopmouth Double IPA by Arcadia — an K double IPA not too bitter– Hopslam by Bell’s — An odd but good double IPA brewed with honey a sweet contrast to cover up the extra bitter of hops– IPA by dell — just a fantastic fresh IPA one of the best of that single IPA style hint of sweet from fresh hops– I2PA by Rogue Ales — intense hop bitters balanced by malt grain flavors; very strong but increasingly good as the tongue adjusts– Juju Ginger by Left Hand — interesting spicy beer heavy ginger would be great with Asian food– Maximus IPA by Lagunitas — very fresh IPA hops taste raw with a bitter finish in a 22 oz. bomber but — Miller Lite by SAB Miller — standard light American lager all the hallmarks of a commercial brew light flavor light taste easy to drink a little watery– Monchschoff Schwarz bier by Kulmbacher Brauerei — nutty roasty black lager smoother than it looks– No. 15 by Schlafly — clove and citrus hints of banana from the yeast one of the better dark American wheats– ld Rasputin by North Coast — a very tasty Russian imperial stout heavy roasted malts heavy chocolate almost a barleywine– ld Style by G.

Pike XXXXX Stout
Seattle Post Intelligencer – Jun 11, 2008
These days I’m obviously a big fan of the stout. But I remember back to when I first moved to Seattle just over three years ago and I really wasn’t that impressed with the first tastes of it I had. The previous owners had changed the beer but when the Finkel’s bought back the Pike Brewery a couple of years ago one of the first things they did was to bring the original recipe back. Posted by document… this beer just does not impress me. seriously if you are going to put that many x’s in the the title of your beer it better be wicked black! this is neither an imperial or an oatmealsooo.
