bama: Put the journalists’ beer on my tab
CNN Political Ticker
Halfway through a round of golf on Sunday afternoon bama rolled up to the snack bar in his golf cart to find a small pool of reporters waiting to get more pictures of him enjoying a leisurely day. No doubt realizing these might not be the best images at a time of recession bama suggested the reporters seek some other recreation to pass the time — rather than snapping so many pics. “bama then told us we should be in the clubhouse at the bar having some beers” according to a pool report by Jamie Farnsworth of CBS News. “Someone asked if he would pick up the tab and he agreed before driving off to the next hole. Pool is still holding without beer. In a separate pool report for print journalists Jeff Zeleny of The New York Times added helpfully: “He chatted for a moment telling the pool to have a beer and put it on his tab. No one took him up on the offer.

Both of these cities have previously been considered out of range for the Qassam rockets produced by Hamas in Gaza. Since the Hamas takeover of Gaza in June 2007 the border crossings between the Strip and Israel have been largely closed by Israel due to continued rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel. The closings have led to what Palestinians are calling “a dire humanitarian situation” in Gaza with a majority of the population depending on aid distributed by the United Nations. n Monday Cairo asked Hamas to ensure that no rockets were fired towards Israel so that the Egyptian Red Crescent society could send five trucks carrying food and medical aid through one of the border crossings between Israel and Gaza.

Brewers Association plumps for craft beer in China
St. Louis Post-Dispatch United States
That’s the craft beer trade group based in Boulder Colo. The group is promoting holiday beers talking up pairings of beer and food and most recently schmoozing in China. The group is trying to gain a toehold in the world’s biggest beer market — and one of its most difficult. Five American craft breweries currently export to China supplying 20 brands; about 80 “on-premise” establishments such as restaurants or bars carry the products today. That’s an increase but still a pretty small blip on China’s radar screen.
