- A Galesburg man has landed in jail forbreaking into a convenience store but the store in question hadalready been destroyed by a fire explosion and roof collapse. Police say all 21-year-old Khristopher Young did was cross theyellow caution tape put up around the Quik Stop after the Fridaynight fire and help himself to some beer. An officer says he spotted Young leaving the store Sundayafternoon with two 40-ounce bottles of beer. A check of Young’s carrevealed more beer in the back but some of the bottles had alreadybroken because of the intense cold. Authorities say Young faces a preliminary charge of burglary.

The closings have led to what Palestinians are calling “a dire humanitarian situation” in Gaza with a majority of the population depending on aid distributed by the United Nations. n Monday Cairo asked Hamas to ensure that no rockets were fired towards Israel so that the Egyptian Red Crescent society could send five trucks carrying food and medical aid through one of the border crossings between Israel and Gaza.
