While some studies suggest moderate alcohol consumption can reduce heart disease the same amount of alcohol may damage a person’s DNA increasing their risk of cancer by 20 percent said Dr. Rachel Thompson a spokeswoman for the cancer research fund. “When you consider how many cases of these types of cancer are diagnosed in the (United Kingdom) every year it is clear that drinking even relatively small amounts of alcohol can make a significant difference” Thompson said. Each year in Britain an estimated 36500 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer and another 3000 with liver cancer said Britain’s National Audit ffice which estimates 10 million Britons now drink to “hazardous” levels.

The man is being held on $20000 bail. According to State Police Ramsey K. Towles 18 Black River broke into Michael Percy’s home at 30201 Burnup Road in Black River and stole the beer. Percy held Ramsey down until fficers arrived.

The 26-year-old is actually completing her PhD in pathology and laboratory medicine by researching the sudsy beverage at the University of Saskatchewan home to one of only two labs in the world that studies beer spoilage. “It’s a good conversation starter” Haakensen says from her tiny cluttered lab on the Saskatoon campus. “I’ve gone through so many years of school and I’ve studied medical microbiology and all this and that – and now I’m saving beer.
