As outlined by committee chair Joe Gold the ten days will be filled with tastings tours beer dinners and educational seminars on all things beery. The Baltimore Beer Week committee of which I am a member has met a couple of times. Things are still in the early organizing stage but the dates are firm. The Baltimore Beer Week.

You see it with the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and so many more that haven’t really hit the national conscious as yet. Well the North Coast Brewing Company out of California has done it again. They have put together a fantastic pale ale that won’t overwhelm with hops won’t leave a bitter aftertaste and won’t make you wish they had never invented such a thing as a pale ale. I’ve written before that pale ales of late have become a bit overpowering.

German Beer Sales Drop to Lowest Since at Least 1991

29 (Bloomberg) — German beer sales declined last yearto the lowest level since at least 1991 following a smoking ban inrestaurants and pubs. 3 billion liters of beer in 2008 down 1. 1percent from a year earlier the Federal Statistics ffice inWiesbaden said today. That?s the lowest level recorded since datafor a reunified Germany were first compiled in 1991.

MP slams beer sold at 1p a pint

Stockton-based Dukedom Group plans to offer cut-price pints at six of its 34 outlets to customers who also buy a glass of spirits. The company said the measure was aimed at helping people get through the economic downturn. The plan has been condemned by Labour MP for Stockton South Dari Taylor and the group Alcohol Concern which said it could encourage binge-drinking. The pub group owns 32 venues in Teesside Lancashire and the Midlands. The six pubs involved are in Stockton Redcar the Wirral Hull Barnsley and Nelson in Lancashire.

After several centuries Mortlake Brewery to close

But Britons’ collective passion for beer ale and hard cider wasn’t enough to save the centuries-old Mortlake Brewery. The brewery is scheduled to close next year putting roughly 300 workers out of work and depriving London of the last major brewer set on the banks of the River Thames. The demise of Mortlake follows the recent closure of several other breweries in Britain. The breweries are victims of changing times: Beer sales are falling nationwide and pubs like breweries are closing across the country. Story continues below ?advertisement |.
