Marston’s reports weak beer sales but outperforms rivals

Marston’s which owns more than 2250 pubs said today that like-for-like profits fell by 6% at its tenanted pubs in the 15 weeks to 17 January. “Trading in the Christmas and New Year weeks showed a slight improvement compared to recent trends but as expected trading in January to date has been more subdued” the company said. It has tried to support its tenants through rent concessions and price discounts on beer.

The only thing they found missing was a six-pack of beer. Police officers are trying to determine a possible motive for the burglary and cruelty to animals case. The spokeswoman for the Boulder Police Department said there is no indication that the victims had problems with neighbors related to the dog’s barking.

land: Rural beer sales declining across Maritimes

And the president of Moosehead Breweries Ltd. sees worrying signs here in Atlantic Canada. In an interview with The Chronicle Herald this week Mr. land said rural beer sales are declining across the Maritimes by 10 per cent. “That’s an indicator of less people in the community and ultimately less people purchasing — not just beer but everything else” he said.
