Souvenir beer We’ll drink to this bill!
Houston Chronicle
Arnold Brewery and fall for the Elissa IPA you’ll go home sadly beerless. So cheers to HB 2094 a bill from state Rep. Jessica Farrar D-Houston that would make Texas beer tourists a much happier bunch. If passed into law the bill would update antiquated laws in a way that allows brewery tourists to take home a souvenir beer — as well as helping Texas microbreweries compete against out-of-state brewers. Who could oppose that idea? Well beer distributors could and in the past their powerful lobby has fought legislation that would allow microbreweries to horn in on their business by selling directly to consumers. But this bill wouldn’t allow breweries to sell beer directly — only to include a take-home six-pack or case in a brewery tour’s ticket price. Those tours are a big deal for craft brewers.

Beer Primer: Dubbels
Decide Twincities
When throwing gallons of beer in a tank and letting it ferment wasn’t enough they took the next most logical step adding more yeast and more malt to make well a boozier beer like dubbels. Most dubbels pack so much flavor you’ll have a hard time finishing a goblet but that shouldn’t keep you from trying it. In keeping with the Belgian brewing tradition look for subtle balanced flavors that all go down smooth. While dubbels don’t have as much alcohol as their American strong ale counterparts they are stronger than most other Belgians.
