There?s a similar seasonal transition with beers in that we are somewhere between the heavier bodied bold brews of winter and the lighter crisp wheat beers of summer. Fortunately a full-flavored colorful Belgian ale known as Stone Soup seems just right to fill this seasonal void to brighten a rainy evening in anticipation of warmer days the horizon. \n\nTo my surprise.

Dogfish Head Simul-Cask Results in Simul-Beer Drinking

A friend of mine who is a pretty big fan of Dogfish Head herself actually told me about the Simul-Cask and insisted that we go. My friend a fellow beer fan who I’ve known since my college orientation met me at the bar about an hour and a half before the event took place so I enjoyed a Great Divide Titan IPA and a Wexford Irish Cream Ale before I even tasted Dogfish Head. Blind Tiger a true gastropub featured a huge menu of beers. Last night they were serving several Great Divide Brews a couple Lagunitas Magic Hat #9 mmegang Witte (which my friend snatched up immediately) and several other great beers. We each got our pints and sat down to wait for the moment when we could finally taste some Dogfish Head. Interestingly enough there were no Dogfish Head brews on tap but perhaps they wanted to intensify the anticipation for the 75 Minute IPA.

Additional tax on beer won’t help middle class

David Paterson's budget proposal to more than double the state's beer excise tax from 11 cents to 24 cents in hopes of generating revenue for the state will ultimately have the opposite effect. The excise tax increase will raise the cost of beer decrease volume sold thus negatively impacting sales and eliminating jobs. Historically when the federal excise tax was doubled in 1991 three breweries closed one located in Fulton and across the nation 60000 jobs were lost. Should the state excise tax more than double the future of the Anheuser Busch brewery in Baldwinsville is questionable putting more than 800 jobs at risk. It is not sound public policy during a recession to implement taxes that would eliminate jobs and seize small business growth the very businesses that have created about 70 percent of new jobs nationally.

It had our names written all over it. Porterhouse is fairly new to the area. They have been brewing and serving their own styles of Belgian English and German beer since 2002. Now these beers you can only get them at Porterhouse. The beers are all unfiltered and naturally cask conditioned on the premises. They do not bottle any of these beers for outside sales. So the only way that you can enjoy a taste is if you make the trip up to Lahaska and try some for yourself.
