(AP) — Sheriff’s deputies said a Texas woman started a brawl at a wake in Arkansas when she arrived with a beer can in her hand. The woman 52 faces a third-degree domestic battery charges as does another woman 46 over the March 29 fight. Deputies said the first woman arrived at the Christies Chapel Church with a beer can in hand and that she refused to leave. The first woman then allegedly grabbed a man by the face leaving scratch marks on his lower right cheek and causing him to bleed. The man’s mother then allegedly slapped the woman and kicked another woman in the chest.

Nice crowd a mix of 20s- and 30s-somethings and a few gray-hairs like me. I was drawn to a cooking demonstration by Greg Nivens founder of the festival. Greg’s basic idea was to put bacon in everything even good bourbon. For me the highlight of the demonstration was watching Greg building the "bacon explosion" a pork studded treat created by two guys in Kansas City.

The company whose brands include Johnnie Walker scotch and Guinness beer is developing in-store displays to encourage shoppers to buy more of its products in supermarkets and liquor stores. Central to its approach is a plan to roll out big refrigeration units so stores can sell their beer chilled.

A bill came before the House committee Friday calling for the state to measure servings of beer and for the regon Liquor Control Commission to issue decals to establishments that meet the “honest pint” 16-ounce standard. The decal system would be voluntary for businesses. And for those of you who just got excited reading this you will be pleased to hear that it appears the bill will pass and be coming to a bar near you soon. Naturally a number of questions arise: Is this the best use of the Legislature’s time? What will it cost to have someone go around to bars and check the measurements? How can you enforce and guarantee such a rule? Why not just put a 16-ounce line on the glass like England and Germany do so the customer can see for himself? Luckily once you sit down at your local bar with its “honest pint” decal and finish your first full 16-ounces of beer you will no longer care….

“More than 200 MPs and TV celebrities including Melanie Sykes and z Clarke have backed appeals by brewers for April 6 to be recognised as an official celebration of the nation’s favourite tipple. The demand was made at the start of National Cask Ale Week backed by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Independent Family Brewers of Britain (IFBB) which runs until Easter Monday. ver 6000 pubs will participate in the week-long celebration which will feature a series of events highlighting the plight of the pub culminating in an attempt to break the world record for the largest toast which currently stands at 485000 people. As part of the campaign MPs including Liberal Democrat deputy leader Vince Cable former leader Menzies Campbell and Tory MP Ann Widdecombe have called on the government to adopt a five-point plan to save Britain’s pubs which are closing down at a rate of five per day.
