BEDFRD — Police hoping to keep alcohol out of the hands of prom-goers did an undercover sweep Friday at a dozen stores. An 18-year-old male purchased beer at seven of the stores and the clerks were cited. “This is the most violations we have had during any of our stings” Chief Gregory Duber said. “The high number of underage sales is alarming. We will have to follow this up with more frequent checks. The stores that made the underage sales: Downtown Bedford Beverage Marathon Circle K Sunoco on Northfield Road CVS on Solon Road Deli 4 Less Circle K on Center Road Big and Little.

Beer bottle fight leads to arrest in Sparta

SPARTA — Two 28-year-old Sparta men were arrested early Monday after a fight that sent another man to a local hospital according to Sparta police. The 28-year-old Sparta man was struck with a broken beer bottle about 2:15 a. on the 300 block of Central Avenue and was taken to Franciscan Skemp-Sparta with nonlife-threatening injures Sparta police said. No names were released in the incident. The men are expected to be charged today by the Monroe County District Attorney’s ffice.
