a man walked into a gas station near 3200 West and 3500 South and took two 24-packs of beer said West Valley City police Lt. The clerk followed him outside where he met another man who punched him in the face. The pair then got into a white SUV and drove off. The clerk reported the incident to police.

The taxman is looking for you. Key legislative leaders Friday contemplated hiking the state’s tax on beer by 2. 6 cents per six pack for the first time in a decade to help underwrite a proposed multibillion-dollar statewide construction program. Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) confirmed talk of a beer tax which would be part of a trio of liquor tax increases under consideration. Taxes of 13 cents per bottle of wine and 80 cents per bottle of hard liquor have been on the table. “The beer people feel left out so we’re considering adding them” Cullerton quipped.

Sheriff busts drinking party next door to his home

Sheriff Mike Mollenhauer says his next-door neighbors asked himto keep an eye on their house while they were out of town. Hebecame suspicious when he saw several vehicles parked outside. Mollenhauer says he walked into the home’s basement and sawabout 20 people at least one partially empty bottle of vodkaseveral 30-packs of beer and evidence of a beer drinking game. More than a dozen underage drinkers were arrested.
