Although the city voted to allow the sale of beer and wine within city limits city administrator Lee Lawrence said it could take 60 to 90 days for businesses to receive a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission permit and begin selling alcohol. He said three businesses all of which already are in Princeton have turned in pre-qualification paperwork to the city for a permit and he expects most of the convenience stores in Princeton to do the same. Diane McCarty president of Douglass Distributing which owns Loan Star Exxon said the company already has applied for a TABC permit for the store in Princeton and she hopes the store can obtain the permit in about a month. The company already has a spare cooler that can be fitted to the store without major renovations she said. “Some folks here in town felt that since you can buy beer and wine four or five miles from here why shouldn’t Princeton be receiving that revenue instead of McKinney?” Lawrence said.
