The economic downturn has forced lots of companies to make cuts and discontinue some retirement benefits but Molson may have gone too far. Current retirees will see their. Molson says providing the 2400 retirees with proof that God loves them costs the company about C$1 million ($900000) a year. “There was no consultation we just received a letter that this is a done deal which is totally unfair” said Bill Bavis who retired six years ago after 32 years.

owner of the Latrobe plant to lease a portion of the facility and make Iron City and its other beers at Latrobe starting in July. Hickman characterized Iron City as an anchor product for the Latrobe plant which has been shuttered for months. At least 171000 barrels of beer will be made annually at the newer more modernized brewery which has a capacity of more than 1 million barrels each year. George Parke CE of City Brewing described Iron City as a great American Beer and said he was honored to have the beer made at Latrobe. While he didn’t divulge details he added that he expects to add other contract-brewing accounts at the facility that will help the plant to reach 40 percent capacity a level at which he said the facility could be profitable. Eric Shepherd an editor with Beer Marketers Insights an industry trade publication said that attracting contract brewing accounts is very competitive. Ken Vecenie owner of Vecenie Distributing Company in Millvale which is a master distributor of Iron City beer on the city’s North Side and in the northern suburbs waited to know more but was hopeful the move will allow the brand to survive.
